Does WestJet allow pets in the cabin?

On most WestJet international flights only the  small dogs can be brought in the cabin or as checked cages. It is against the law to transport dogs or cats to, from, or via Barbados, Iceland, Ireland, Hawaii, Glasgow, Jamaica, or London, whether in checked kennels or carry-on luggage. While pets other than dogs and cats can be brought on WestJet, certain animal species might not be allowed or might need special permission to visit other nations.

What is the Westjet Pet Policy?

Pets who have checked baggage or flying in the cabin are subject to a pet kennel cost. Also you must depending on its size, an empty kennel or a pet in a kennel will count both as a personal item or a carry-on item toward your carry-on luggage allowance. Kennel costs are payable with Travel Bank dollars or a credit card via a WestJet contact centre. Also, you should have asked for space for your beloved companion as soon as you have finished your booking, as WestJet Flight restricts the number of pets allowed on each flight. Pet owners may not be allowed to travel with their animals if they do not seek space for them at least 48 hours prior to departure.

To make reservations in advance to make sure your pet has a seat on the plane. Pets may not be allowed to travel if you do not make reservations in advance.

  • It will not be possible to transport pets that are less than eight weeks old.
  • At WestJet’s exclusive discretion, shipments of animals that seem hostile, rowdy, or in need of help may be refused.

  • Regarding the feeding or care of pets during travel, WestJet makes no guarantees.
  • It is not possible to receive compensation for consequential damages like lost companionship or enjoyment, annoyance, etc.

As Checked Animal

  • Pets are not allowed on flights run by interline and code-share partners of WestJet. Pets are not allowed on flights operated by WestJet that were scheduled through one of our partners.
  • In order to ensure your pet’s comfort, go for non-stop flights, as well as summertime early morning or late evening flights and wintertime noon flights.
  • An unaccompanied minor is not permitted to travel with a pet.
  • Transport requests will not be approved for pets that are less than eight weeks old.
  • One kennel may hold up to two compatible animals of the same species that weigh no more than 14 kg apiece when shipped. Weight limits apply to the maximum total weight. Pets weighing more than 14 kg each need to be delivered separately.
  • Our decision to refuse a pet for transport may be based on the appearance of aggression, unruliness, or distress.

How strict is WestJet with pet carriers?

There are no actual rules on which kind of carrier to use, but you must keep in mind that it needs to be small enough to fit beneath an airline seat and shouldn’t be larger than 45 linear inches or about 21.5 x 15.5 x 9 inches. With that, the carrier size limits may be considerably lower, depending on the airline.
